We are proud to have hosted our pilot workshop, featuring former prison officer Josh Edridge, who led an eye-opening Q&A session titled "Life Behind the Door". The session provided a real-world perspective on prison life, sparking honest and thought-provoking dialogue amongst young participants.

Why “Life Behind the Door” Matters to Young People

Life Behind the Door captures the essence of this youth initiative. The workshop offers a realistic education on prison life, challenging the glamorised portrayals often seen on social media and in popular culture.

The event gave young attendees the opportunity to steer the conversation, asking pressing questions about the consequences of certain behaviours, particularly those highlighted in the new series, Adolescence. The group explored the influence of media, the reality of incarceration, and the importance of informed decision-making.

Key Takeaways from the Youth-Led Workshop

  • Prison is nothing like the misleading images online.

  • Young people want honest conversations about their futures.

  • Empowerment begins with knowledge and choice.

  • Critical thinking reduces the risk of poor decisions.

  • Honest feedback fuels growth and future programme development.

We received fantastic feedback from our youth participants. They appreciated the openness and authenticity of the conversation. It’s now our mission to deliver the "Life Behind the Door" workshop to more schools, youth groups, and community settings, especially for those vulnerable to the criminal justice system.

Conclusion:

It’s clear: when young people are given space to speak, learn, and challenge what they think they know, transformation happens. The "Life Behind the Door" workshop is a vital part of our ongoing commitment to youth empowerment, informed choices, and crime prevention through education.
